Provider Information.

In the deregulated Texas ERCOT electricity market, a Retail Electric Provider (REP) is an independent company certified by the Public Utility Commission of Texas (PUCT) under 16 TAC §25.107 to sell electricity supply and provide customer billing. While your local Transmission and Distribution Utility (TDU) delivers power over physical lines, you have the legal right to choose your REP.

Statutory Regulatory Framework

How REPs Operate in the Texas ERCOT Grid

Retail Electric Providers purchase bulk electricity generation on the wholesale ERCOT market, structure consumer rate plans, and handle billing and customer service. Every REP operating in Texas must hold an active PUCT certificate, comply with consumer protection standards under 16 TAC §25.471, and disclose rates on standardized Electricity Facts Labels (EFL).

Our Comparison Methodology
01 / LICENSING

PUCT Certification

Always verify a REP's official PUCT Certificate number. Only state-certified providers may lawfully market or enroll electricity customers in Texas.

02 / TRANSPARENCY

EFL Rate Formulas

Inspect the standardized Electricity Facts Label for energy charges, base fees, usage credit cliffs, and early termination penalty formulas.

03 / CREDIT & DEPOSIT

Deposit Rules (§25.478)

Understand deposit waiver rights for seniors (65+), victims of family violence, or choose prepaid fixed-rate options with zero deposit requirements.

04 / DELIVERY TARIFFS

Delivery Charges

Review the selected plan's EFL and terms for delivery charges and credits. The offer documents explain how the utility's delivery charges are reflected in your estimated bill.
