What We Do
GetElectricity provides a modern comparison and enrollment platform designed to demystify Texas retail electricity. Our core services include:
- Estimated Plan Comparison: Where plan inputs are available, we estimate an effective rate per kilowatt-hour (¢/kWh) using supplier energy charges, monthly base fees, and utility delivery charges.
- Standardized Usage Modeling: We compare available plans at the standard 500, 1,000, and 2,000 kWh usage levels disclosed in Electricity Facts Labels (EFLs).
- Plan-Term Review: We present available EFL terms, including bill-credit windows, minimum-usage fees, tiered pricing, and early-termination fees where provided.
- Concierge Enrollment: We provide a digital enrollment workflow for available retail electric plans.
- Educational Consumer Guides: We publish consumer guides covering Texas electricity topics and customer protections.
What We Do Not Do
To maintain absolute clarity for consumers, search engines, and AI answer engines, GetElectricity maintains strict operational boundaries:
- We are NOT a Retail Electric Provider (REP): We do not generate, supply, or sell electricity under retail provider certificates.
- We are NOT a Transmission and Distribution Utility (TDU/TDSP): We do not own, operate, or maintain physical power lines, smart meters, transformers, or electrical grid infrastructure.
- We do NOT handle power outages or emergency repairs: Contact the serving utility for outage reporting and restoration information.
- We do NOT set electricity or delivery charges: Retail electric providers set plan energy charges, and TDUs set regulated delivery charges.
Texas Service Territories & Market Scope
Retail choice and available plans depend on the service address, serving utility, and the current offer catalog. GetElectricity presents comparison and enrollment options only when qualifying inputs are available. See the Texas utility directory for the directory's supported utility profiles and outage contacts.
Regulatory Standing & PUCT Broker License
GetElectricity operates under official registration with the Public Utility Commission of Texas (PUCT):
- Broker Registration Number: #BR230243 Consumers can independently verify broker registration through the Public Utility Commission of Texas.
How Our Plan Comparison Works
Residential electricity plans disclose standardized Electricity Facts Labels (EFLs). Plan costs can vary by usage, charges, credits, and contract terms.
GetElectricity estimates an effective rate for available plan inputs using this mathematical model:
$$\text{Effective Rate (¢/kWh)} = \frac{\text{Supplier Energy Charges} + \text{Base Charges} + \text{TDU Pass-Through Charges} - \text{Earned Credits}}{\text{Monthly Consumption (kWh)}}$$
Our comparison engine:
- Uses available plan terms and EFL inputs.
- Includes applicable delivery-charge inputs for the selected territory when available.
- Calculates estimates at the disclosed usage levels.
- Presents available contract terms, including early-termination fees and conditional credits.
For an exhaustive technical breakdown of our rate formulas, see our canonical Comparison Methodology.
Enrollment and Result Disclosures
Review the disclosures shown with the relevant offer and enrollment flow.
- Enrollment disclosures: Review the plan and enrollment disclosures presented before enrolling.
- Result ordering: Review the sorting and sponsorship disclosures shown with the current result set.
Outage and Grid Emergency Information
GetElectricity helps you find and enroll in competitive electricity plans, but physical electricity delivery, power lines, and emergency restoration are handled by the serving utility. If your power is out, use the Texas utility directory to identify the applicable utility profile and current outage contact.
